User persona research for PAGA — UX design project
This post was created to describe two user personas which were developed for a UX portfolio project titled;
Re-designing the website of the mobile payment app, PAGA.
For this project I conducted an initial user survey exercise with 8 participants.
The result of this survey formed the basis upon which I fleshed out the assumptions of 2 hypothetical, new users of the PAGA mobile payment platform.
User Persona 1:
Bubbly Banke — The Baker
- Name: Banke ‘Bubsy’ Ogungbemi
- Age: 28 years old
- Relationship: In a relationship with Desmond Dede, an upcoming musician
- Occupation: HR manager/Baker
- Behavior: Highly sociable, Introverted
- Income: NGN65,000/mo (salary), NGN30,000/mo (bakery)
- Location: Lives in Ogba, Lagos
- Tech proficiency: 50%
- Mobile apps: Konga, Instagram, Pinterest, Zenith mobile app, Fitness apps
- Motivation to use PAGA: Looking for a good alternative to my mobile payment method, especially when my bank USSD fails
Behavioral patterns
- Banke’s biggest motivation is growing her baking into a comfortable business, enough for her to quit her job
- Banke is not too bothered about fashion but she would love to find the time, to join a gym, in order to lose her belly fat
- Hates: Carrying cash, Math, complex situations. I like to get straight to the matter
- I try to buy only what I need. To prevent over-spending, I use my Zenith app to pay for work expenses and my Guaranty Trust Bank ATM card for my personal expenses.
User Persona 2:
Nerdy Nnamdi — The Techie
Name: Nnamdi Okafor
Age: 32
Relationship: Single
Occupation: Senior Developer at Andela
Behavior: Sociable, Introverted
Income: NGN500,000/mo
Location: Lives in Magodo, Lagos (due to its proximity to his workplace)
Tech proficiency: 95%
Mobile apps: GTB mobile app (+USSD), Slack, Paystack, Twitter
Motivation to use PAGA: Make fast, convenient money transactions on the go.
Behavioral patterns
- Drives himself to work
- Hangs out with his friends in the evenings after work. Pays for drinks using USSD
- Given to help others. His future goal is to build a not-for-profit organization that teaches IT to the under-privileged
- Not particularly in need of a vacation
- Fashion-conscious, loves to take care of how he looks and smells
- Nnamdi is currently single and not looking to get married, but is open to a long-term committed relationship.
- Hates: Carrying cash, having to use the ATM, systems that don’t work, incompetence, not getting results from what I put effort into
- Nnamdi doesn’t mind a complex situation or solving puzzles
